belive, and do good deeds

JUZ JEMS – JUZ 19
[Surah Furqan 21- Surah Naml 55]
The first greater half of Surah Furqan dealt with disbelievers: their state on the Day of Judgment, their regret, their accusations, their mockery, how they ahd abandoned the Qur’an. Allah vividly mentions their regret that day about the old friends they used to have when Allah describes that “And the Day the wrongdoer will bite on his hands [in regret] he will say, “Oh, I wish I had taken with the Messenger a way. Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend. He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter.” [25:27-29] SubhanAllah the company we keep and the people we are surrounded by are such a great influence and those that were surrounded by bad company that led them astray will feel the remorse that Allah warns us about in the ayah. If we are surrounded by people that influence us and lead us to forget our prayers, or gossip and backbite or encourage us to do haram things, first and foremost we need to make dua’ to Allah to protect us from bad company to remove the bad company and distance us from it and slowly we ourselves need to surround ourselves with good company who will be a good influence upon us. After Allah warns us about the perished nations of the past, Allah presents his signs again and again. I want us to think about why Allah mentions these signs so frequently, almost in every surah. These signs that Allah presents, no one can do, no can match up and so these signs are meant to make us turn around, to realize.
The second half of this surah primarily deals with the characteristics of the believers and again this should make our ears perk up and we should jot these things down because these are characteristics we need to try to attain insha’Allah. The ones mentioned here are where Allah says that his servants are those that:
-walk upon the earth easily, they say words of peace even when spoken to harshly
-spend a part of the night praying and prostrating to Allah
-they are moderate in their spending
-they don’t kill, don’t commit zina, and don’t associate anything with Allah (Note: All major sins)
-they repent*, belive, and do good deeds
-they don’t testify to falsehood
-they reflect on the verses of their Lord
-“And those who say, “Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.” [25:74]
These will be the successors, these are the types of people that will be rewarded with greetings of peace.
The second surah discussed in this juz is Surah Shu’ara. This surah opens up with Allah comforting the Messenger, salla Allahu alayhi wasalm that he might kill himself through grief over worrying about these people that just will not believe. He, salla Allahu alayhi wasalam, used to worry so so much for us, subhanAllah, he had the weight and duty of the world on his shoulders. But Allah reminds that if Allah willed, they would have become humbled. Our job is not results; our job is just to put in effort, to make the effort. After that, Allah is the one that knows best the hearts of people.
Throughout this surah, there are several stories that mentioned that can serve as a reminder for us. The first story mentioned is the story of Musa, alayhisalam when Allah gives him the command to go to the people of Firawn to deliver the message. And subhanAllah, you see Musa, alayhisalam, is slightly hesitant, he tells Allah that he’s afraid they will deny him and his tongue may not be fluent because Musa, alayhisalam, had a minor speech problem but Allah comforts him and tells him tha Allah is with them so Both him and Aaron, go to them. Musa, alayhisalam, is also afraid to go back because he had fled the land cause he had accidently killed a man. SubhanAllah, when he goes to Pharoh, Pharoh brings that up and reminds Musa that “[Pharaoh] said, “Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you remained among us for years of your life? And [then] you did your deed which you did, and you were of the ungrateful.” [26:18-19] But Musa, alayhisalam, reminds him that, that was before, but now Allah has granted him prophethood and wisdom. From this conversation, we can take a very deep lesson. How many of us judge people that have a past then come back and try to turn back? Our society can be so unmerciful sometimes and sometimes we act just like Pharoh, where we question, “Weren’t you the same sister who used to that?” But Allah opens the doors to guidance to whomsoever he wishes and instead of pushing people down, we should give people hope in Allah’s mercy and faciliate their change; not turn them down.
So we go on and Allah tells us about the rest of the story where Pharoh denies, and requests all the magicians in the land to come trying to prove that Musa is just a madman but we see that Musa is coming with the truth and even the magicians prostrate and submit themselves to Allah. We go on and see how Musa, alayhisalam, is commanded to go out because the Pharoh will try to pursue them, and so when the two parties see one another, the people Musa, alayhisalam, are scared that they might be overtaken, they are afraid but look at the iman and the reliance in Allah, the tawakkul that he has, “[Moses] said, “No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me.” [26:62] And so he strikes the sea with his staff and it parts and we know that the people of Pharoh and Pharoh himself are drowned. In these stories are signs of tawakkul, these are iman boosters for us and stories that we can reflect on; learn lessons from.
We go on and the story of Ibrahim, alayhisalam, is mentioned in which Ibrahim, alayhisalam, is trying to knock some sense in to his people who are worshipping idols just because their family and the past fathers were doing the same thing. And in these ayahs, he says some really powerful statements that are very moving, subhanAllah:
“Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. And when I am ill, it is He who cures me And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense.” [And he said], “My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.” [26:77-89] Ibrahim, alayhisalam’s dua’ are always so beautiful, so deep, with so much meaning in them subhanAllah and at the end we learn the importance of sincerity how on the Day of Judgment, the only one who will benefit is one who has a sound heart. The story of Noah, alayhisalam, is also mentioned as well as the story of Lut, the people of ‘Aad, Thamood. All in all the surah can be split up to one half where Allah discusses signs that are scattered through the Earth and then signs that we can learn from the people that have destroyed in the past. Allah reminds us to keep warning but those that persistently disbelieve, dissociate yourself from them. Everything, every warning, is given in this Qur’an, which guides to the truth, guides to what is better and this is the Truth.
Surah Naml is the next surah in this juz. It is a Makkan surah and opens up with Allah mentioning the part regarding Musa, alayhisalam, where he sees a fire in the distance while they are lost in the desert and he hopes that when he goes to where this light is, he will find some kind of directional guidance for his family and himself. But subhanAllah what happens when he goes to the light? He is granted prophethood and directly speaks to Allah. Instead of getting directional guidance, he gets spiritual guidance Alhamdulillah.
In these first fifty five ayahs of surah Naml,  there are three types of characters that are mentioned. In the first character, it is the people that do not believe even after they were given signs. This covers Pharoh, the people of Lut, Thamood. They were heedless regarding the hereafter no matter the message that was sent to them. The second type of character is described through the mention of Solomon, alayhisalam who is granted a large kingdom and granted wealth but he didn’t become arrogant, he still praised Allah. “So [Solomon] smiled, amused at her speech, and said, “My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the ranks of] Your righteous servants.” [27:19] The third type of character that is mentioned is that of the Queen Saba, who was a very wealthy, prominent queen, richer even than the wealth and possessions of the Quraysh. She was not a believer, she had just followed what her family had followed, the way of her fathers but when the truth becomes clear to her, when faith enter her heart, she submits. She realizes her mistake and “She said, “My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, and I submit with Solomon to Allah , Lord of the worlds.” [27:44]
