3 Steps To Forgiveness
Recognize. Repent. Regret.
Fact: sinners will dwell in both Jannah and Jahannam. The fine line separating the two is solely based on repentance and the mercy of Allah. SubhanAllah.
Surely one should take advantage of Allah’s mercy?:
1) Recognize- Being able to recognize personal faults is by far the hardest step. It involves admittance to our errors and in some cases overcoming arrogance.
2) Repent- by this stage one has saved them self from Allah’s wrath, providing that there is sincerity and honestly in dua.
3) Regret- a feeling that should linger – and like the scent of musk, it is pleasing to Allah.
Imam Abdul Latif described ‘positive tension’ a form of stress which is uplifting and drives a person closer to Allah. Regret is a part of that as it acts as a reminder of how much improvement there needs to be made.
However it should never be confused with guilt which is demotivating and of course from shaytan.
The first ever sin was committed by Qabil (son of Adam) who had murdered his brother Habil, out of spite and jealousy. After the terrible act, Qabil identified his fatal error but he failed to repent. Although he had experienced feelings of regret and recognized his wrongdoings, he did not openly ask for Allah’s forgiveness.
This is why he will face the hell fire and above that will recieve a fraction of punishment from every murder committed by man.
One must remember it is not the sin that leads him to Jahannam but the absence of prayer and repentance.
(Surat Ash-Shura, 25)
It is He Who accepts repentence from His servants and pardons evil acts and knows what they do.
