only a few know what it really means

How comforting it is to have a friend by your side 24/7. As a support, a guide, a shield… someone who you know will never bring you down. Someone who would help you even if the whole world leaves your side. Such is the relationship of Allah with His slaves. He is the One Who will never leave you stranded, how bad the times may be.
 

To strengthen this relationship with Him, we need to know the pros and cons of it -only there are no cons-, get to know more about Him and ourselves through His Book, that He has addressed to us- to you and me.
Let us begin our journey through the Qur’an with surah Al-Fatihah, and promise ourselves to change for the better for a stronger bond with Allah (swt), and a happier, peace-filled life altogether.

سُوۡرَةُ الفَاتِحَة

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ (١)ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ (٢) ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ (٣) مَـٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ (

٤)

“Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds. Most Gracious, Most Merciful. Master of the, Day of Judgment.”

[Al-Fatihah: 1-3]

Millions of muslims recite this surah daily in their salah, but only a few know what it really means. This opening surah of the Quran contains the very essence of our life. The very first verse, alhamdulillahi rabbil alamin, contains the greatest truth.

 

What is hamd? ‘It is that beautiful feeling that arises in your heart when you wonder at a blessing of Allah.’
 

Walking on the dewy grass on a cold winter fajr, gazing at the starry night sky, the crunch of the yellow autumn leaves, the maple at its beauty, inhaling that scent of earth after a rainfall or when you see your child take the first breath of life… if you want to describe these feelings in a word, that is hamd.

 

Thus, with this one word, Quran connects us to Allah.What does Allah (swt) want from us? That we praise Him and Him alone, that we submit to him.

 

He is the Rabb-ul-Alamin_ the Sustainer of the Worlds. Imagine the vast universe, and everything that’s in it. He is the One who did not only create it from nothingness, but is also nurturing and guiding it. We see His love for us reflecting in His creations, that He designed to perfection, and He left them at our disposal. To use them well, and thank Him at every step. Gratitude. It’s the first step towards appreciating and acknowledging Allah (swt).

But we all know we won’t be staying around for long to enjoy all the luxuries. And every breath is taking us closer to our end. We will all be raised up again one day_ on Al-Qiyamah; to account for every deed (big or small) that we carried out. The Day when our Record will be presented to us, and our afterlife destination would be decided accordingly.

Just like the way it is with a credit card. I go on a wild shopping spree, have the time of my life, and then I pay. I know I’ll get to face a monthly bill- like it or not.
Same is the scenario with our life credit. We’ll have to answer for every spent minute to the Master of the Day of Judgement.

But there’s a slight difference though. If I spend my life according to the One to Whom I owe my life to, I’ll get served. And if I bite off more than I can chew, then I’ll have to pay.

So how exactly should we use this life-balance? Watch out for the next verses. :)
Till then, implement theses verses in your life:

• praise Allah (swt), contemplate on the nature, spend your time in His remembrance
• feel grateful for His Compassion that fills your life
• before doing anything, remember the Day of Judgement
• live with a sense of accountability
